Motion Graphics
Anime with Alvin
A hypothetical intro for a new segment on a popular Youtube channel, Binging with Babish. This case studies explores 2D meets 3D animation.
Task:
Create an animated Youtube Intro.
Tools:
After Effects, Blender, Photoshop
Problem
As part of my internship with Cloud in the Sky Studios, I was tasked to pitch a hypothetical motion graphics project. I chose to do a Youtube introduction for one of my favorite channels, Binging with Babish. While the channel has been around for a decade, they've recently decided to expand and create content around new hosts, so I chose their new segment, Anime with Alvin, as the basis of my project. The goal is to introduce the new host, Alvin, while keeping in mind the established brand feel of Binging with Babish.
Process
I started by gathering some references about the current feel of the of the existing channel and editing styles as well as some adjacent styles that could help distinguish Alvin’s video’s from Babish’s. I presented my ideas as a project pitch.
Storyboarding and Style Exploration
After deciding on a concept and receiving feedback from my mentors, I got to work developing the scenes and style. I decided to create the food and utencils in blender while animating the characters by hand. (Sketched in green and blue respectively.)
Refinement
As I started to create the core components of my project, I took time to refine details such as colour, composition, and lighting.
